I have not seen The Little Mermaid in many years, but, just the other day, as I was sitting at the desk trying to take care of some tedious adult junk, I was listening to the Disney channel on Pandora and one of my favorite songs came on. Yes, you guessed right, it was from The Little Mermaid. The song is called “Part of Your World”. I am sure you all know this song, and if you don’t…you need a life…or a lack of one, because EVERYONE knows this song.
To get to the point, it started this rabbit trail thought process that has carried over several days because I have not had the ability to write it all down like word vomit as I usually do when I have what I presume to be a profound train of thought.
Get your raincoats ready and take cover.
Here comes several days worth of word vomit held down by the demands of a certain lovely infant.
No longer can I hold it in.
Thought O.N.E.
We all suffer from LMS (Little Mermaid Syndrome).
No, this does not mean that we all wish that we had green scales fins and seashell bras.
No, this does not mean that we all wish that we had red hair and green eyes.
No, this does not mean that we all wish our father had a triton.
Although, most of us do.
This means that we all wish we had MORE.
We may not want what Ariel HAS, but we all want what she WANTS. More.
In her song, she has all that she could ever want. In her world, she has riches. She has THINGS. But she wants MORE. She wants the ability to walk on land and live like a human because she has SEEN it and she can’t just obtain it by asking for it, and her father forbids it, but SHE STILL WANTS IT.
Are you identifying here?
Let me break it down.
We live in the wonderful, beautiful, glamourous United States of America.
For the most part, WE SEE IT, WE WANT IT, WE GET IT.
However, we are all faced with the things that WE WANT but CAN’T AFFORD.
We DESIRE these things.
DREAM about them.
All day.
All night.
We think about WHAT OUR LIFE WOULD BE LIKE if we had them.
We SING about them.
We LONG for them.
And, moreover, we work as hard and long as it takes to get these things.
When we have them,
We want more.
Feel the fever?
Feel the chills?
You better get examined.
You may have
The Little Mermaid Syndrome.
Thought T.W.O.
We SHOULD all have LMS.
Same virus as aforementioned.
Different strain.
Let’s put this strain in a petrie dish,
and under the microscope,
and gawk at the difference.
We should all want MORE of Jesus.
We may not want what Ariel DESIRES, but when basking in His presence we should DESIRE MORE.
Why?
We CANT AFFORD HIM.
We DON’T DESERVE HIM.
We should DESIRE HIM.
DREAM about HIM.
All day.
All night.
We should think WHAT OUR LIFE WOULD BE LIKE with more of Him.
SING about HIM.
LONG for HIM.
And for some reason, we don’t feel the need to work as hard and long as it takes to get the ultimate “possession”.
The love of Christ.
His guidance.
His presence.
Feel the fever?
Feel the chills?
You better examine your heart.
It may be lacking
The Little Mermaid Syndrome
