Several weeks ago, I alluded to the big reveal of my WORD for 2019. And, as per usual, this is a little later than expected. Not on purpose. But definitely on purpose. I’m learning more and more that there are some things God gives us to share with others. And then there are things He wants us to sit on and soak in for a bit, and then only maybe will He lead you to share it.
With that being said, I have been sifting through what God intends to be a living example and what God is gently and intimately whispering only to my spirit for now.
Last year was DISCIPLINE. This year is LEGACY. I’m learning quickly that Discipline is the first ingredient in Legacy. In other words, I’m still REALLY working on this discipline thing. And I always will be.
I’m also learning (I know you all probably already know this stuff, but goodness, I’m kinda thick headed sometimes!) that in order to effectively develop the legacy you want to leave long after you are gone, you must first firmly decide what your PASSIONS and PRIORITIES are.
I’m discovering that a few strong passions that become ferverent priorities have far greater potential in leaving a LASTING LEGACY than dabbling in many arenas of life.
What are your passions?
Are they a priority?
If so, then, let’s talk LEGACY.
A mentor of mine once asked me this:
How far back in your lineage can you remember names?
You likely know your parents’ and grandparents’ names. For some, it’s a no brainer to remember the names of great-grandparents. But what about great great grandparents? This is where many people fail the name game. And, thus, you can conclude, that unless your time building your legacy is well spent on this earth, you can safely assume that you are just 3 generations away from total extinction. Once your great great grandchildren come around, it’s likely they wont have a clue about who you were, what you did, or why it even mattered.
That may not bother you.
But it deeply bothers me.
I want to be remembered. But not remembered for just any old reason. I want to be remembered for the LEGACY that I am dedicating my life to create.
What is your legacy?
I recently had the privilege of having a group of world changing women in my home. And, you better believe I asked them the same question.
WHAT IS THE LEGACY YOU WANT TO LEAVE WHEN YOU ARE GONE?
HOW DO YOU WANT PEOPLE TO REMEMBER YOU?
WHAT DO YOU WANT PEOPLE TO REMEMBER YOU FOR?
If you’re anything like me, these are HARD questions to answer. I want my legacy to be deeply rooted in the family I have, in the community God has placed me in, and the people God has placed around me.
Developling a Legacy is much different than the game plan and strategy to get there. But without the Legacy, you can’t begin to have a plan. And, without a plan, you won’t ever leave a Legacy.
WHAT CAN YOU DO THIS YEAR TO GROW YOUR LEGACY?
And sometimes, the more important question here is,
WHAT IS KEEPING YOU FROM THE GROWTH YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE IN YOUR LEGACY?
WHAT NEEDS TO BE REFINED OR REDACTED FROM YOUR LIFE TO ENSURE THAT YOUR LEGACY IS THRIVING?
And, over the last few weeks, I have grown even more keenly aware of one more thing. Where your legacy is rooted is the biggest and most important starting block question.
IS YOUR LEGACY ROOTED IN SELFISH DESIRES OR SELFLESS DISIRES?
EARTHLY PERSPECTIVE OR ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE?
GAINING KNOWLEDGE OR GAINING WISDOM?
MATERIAL GAIN OR MATURITY GAIN?
MAKING A NAME OR BRINGING JESUS FAME?
I want to challenge you, push you, encourage you, and cheer for you. Afterall, you, my dear friends, are a BIG part of MY legacy.
Stay Tuned for Profound Thoughts.
